Cyclic Characterization of Liquefiable Sands Description: The method for cyclic characterization of liquefiable sands, which employs the concept of dynamic backbone curve in conjunction with the Masing criteria for construction of unloading and reloading branches of cyclic loops, is refined and verified. Genralized Cyclic-Degradation-Pore-Pressure Generation Model for Clays Description: A model for the behavior of fuly saturated normally consolidated and overconsolidated marine clyas subjected to uniform cyclic strain-controlled and staged cyclic loading under simple shear conditions is proposed. Overcoming Hurdles that Limit the Application of Nonlinear Seismic Ground Response Analysis Description: In this paper, preliminary results of a "benchmarking study" of nonlinear ground response analysis procedures are presented. Added on: 29-Jul-2006 Hits: 2824 Rate this Site
Seismic Response of Composite Horizontally-Layered Soil Deposits Description: A new method is developed for the evaluation of seismic response of horizontally layered saturated soil deposits composed of layers of sand and clay, i.e., composite soil deposits. The method is implemented in a computer program named D-MOD, which combines a newly developed generalized cyclic degradation-pore water pressure generation model for clay, a modified cyclic stress degradation model for sand, and a modified general stress-strain model for soils, with the previous work of Lee and Finn and of Vucetic and Dobry, on the seismic response and liquefaction of horizontally layered sand deposits. Seismic response of soil deposits composed of fully-saturated clay and sand Description: This paper presents a non-linear, quasi two-dimensional computer program D-MOD which can take into account the cyclic degradation and hydraulic interaction phenomena in both fully saturated clay and composit soil deposits subjected to strong earthquake shaking. Use of Exact Solutions of Wave Propagation Problems to Guide Implementation of Nonlinear Seismic Description: In this article, exact solutions for body wave propagation through an elastic medium are used to establish guidelines for two issues that have long been a source of confusion for users of nonlinear codes. Utilizing Nonlinear Seismic Ground Response Analysis Procedures for Turkey Flat Blind Predictions Description: Blind predictions of Turkey Flat ground motions are carried out using a series of nonlinear ground response analysis codes. Added on: 29-Jul-2006 Hits: 2986 Rate this Site
